KOLKATA: Sourav Ganguly  on Thursday said he had never been approached by any bookie during his stint as Indian captain, even as the world cricket is rocked by 'spot-fixing' involving Pakistani cricketers. "Three former India captains -- Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble -- too were never approached and such a situation was beyond their imagination," Ganguly told a TV channel. Urging the cricketers to be responsible, Ganguly said the International Cricket Council (ICC) was not a policing body and could not have a constant watch on the players. "ICC is not a police station, it has some set of laws. If ...

Written by on August 25, 2010
DAMBULLA (Sri Lanka): India relied on Virender Sehwag's swashbuckling century and an inspired show of swing bowling to spank New Zealand by 105 runs and cruise into the final of the tri-series on Wednesday. While the flamboyant Sehwag (110) notched up his 13th ODI century to steer India to a competitive 223 after four early jolts, the pace bowlers than came up with fine exhibition of swing and control to skittle out the Kiwis for 118 in 30.1 overs. Tailender Kyle Mills provided some late entertainment with a rollicking 52 but none of the other New Zealand batsman could provide much resistance ...

Yuvraj Singh’s woes on the tour of Sri Lanka continue unabated. First it was the injury that kept him out of the second Test match and then it was the Suresh Raina century that managed to keep him out of the third Test as well. Now, it is the spectators who seem to have got under the skin of the batsman from Chandigarh, by taunting him on the first day of the third Test match. Yuvraj was called the water-boy by the spectators and the spectators kept singing the same in chorus before an angry Yuvraj decided to give the people ...

Written by on July 28, 2010
Sachin Tendulkar cracked his 48th Test century to lead a spirited fightback as India recovered from three quick jolts to keep themselves afloat in the second Test against Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Tendulkar (108 not out) showed great character and temperament to score his first century on Sri Lankan soil in 11 years as he anchored the innings brilliantly to steer the visitors to 382 for four at close on the third day, still needing 61 runs to avoid the follow on. Virender Sehwag missed his century by just one run while debutant Suresh Raina was the other notable performer with a ...

Does Dhoni have the guts to get in an...

Written by on July 24, 2010
That the Indians lost the first Test match against Sri Lanka rather convincingly goes without doubt. However, what was surprising to witness was that Indian captain MS Dhoni gave plethora of excuses for his loss without even once mentioning that his side was thoroughly outplayed by a team which was much better than them. The Indian bowling was inexperienced alright, but whatever happened to the batting; the much-famed batting that collapsed so drastically in both the innings of the game that it almost looked like they had forgotten to bat. Given that Lasith Malinga bowled well, but the Indian tail, that consisted ...
