Andy Murray recovered from a one-set deficit to defeat Rafael Nadal in the final of the Japan Open. Such was Murray’s dominance in the final set of the match that he won the set without dropping a single game.

Murray won only his fourth ATP Tour title of the year, winning in three sets, 3-6 6-2 6-0.

Interestingly, Murray had gone into the match against Nadal having losing only one match of the last 23 that he had played. However, in the three matches that he had played against Nadal, he had lost two of them.

And the start to the match began in a similar fashion as he lost the first set with a break of serve.

It was in the second set that Murray bean to show signs of a comeback, before closing it at 6-2. By that time, Nadal had totally fallen behind the opponent and Murray wrapped it up in fine style, winning it six to nothing.

Rafael Nadal won the match in straight sets but not before he had been taken to the tie-breaker of the first set, winning 7-6(6) 6-3 win over Giraldo.

So far in the tournament, Nadal has been able to defeat Go Soeda and Milos Raonic in easy straight set wins before finding a tough opponent in Giraldo.

Nadal had a couple of break points in the opening set but did not manage to break serve and then had to claw back from from 0-30 at 3-4 to win the set only in the tie-breaker. However, in the second set, things were different as Nadal broke his opposition early in the second set.

His opponent came back strongly to break Nadal but lost another service game to go down 6-3 in the second set. Nadal will play his first really tough opponent in Mardy Fish who defeated Australian youngster Bernard Tomic in three sets, 6-7(5) 6-4 6-1.

Novak Djokovic won his third Grand Slam of the year by defeating Rafael Nadal in the final of the US Open 2011. Djokovic had earlier won the Australian Open and the Wimbledon, while Rafael Nadal had won the French Open in the year.

Djokovic had gone into the finals with a tough five-setter against Federer. Down two sets to love and with Federer serving for the match, Djokovic had mounted a superb fightback in the match. He had come back well to ensure that it was he would play in the finals.

In the other semi-final, Nadal had overcome Scottish player and the fourth seeded Andy Murray in four sets.

In the final, the first two sets followed a similar pattern, with Nadal winning an early break but Djokovic breaking back immediately. Djokovic would then break again to go on to win the set.

Nadal took the third set to the tie-breaker after the two players had traded six services games but in the fourth set, Djokovic left Nadal with not too much in the tank.

Andy Murray may look to the results of the meeting of the world’s top players in tennis in China to decide on whether or not he will play in the Davis Cup in the future.

Murray has been one of those who has complained against the schedule in tennis and the players have decided to take their concerns to the ATP to ensure that their new schedules are taken into account from the next season.

The Scot said that he was rather tired and exhausted after he had beaten Hungary’s Gyorgy Balazs 7-6 6-3. This had helped the side, Great Britain to get back into the Europe/Africa Zone Group One of the Davis Cup.

Murray said that the tennis players were worried about playing in the mandatory events. He added that there were earlier only 13 events including the four Grand Slams that they needed to play.

It remains to be seen whether the ATP will look to change things around from the next season.

Switzerland stormed back into the World Group of the Davis Cup by beating Australia in the playoffs today. In the last match of the tie that was postponed to Monday after bad light stalled one of the better matches in the tie, S Wawrinka managed to beat Lleyton Hewitt in the fifth and the final set to win the match.

The tie had begun on Friday with the two teams tied at one match apiece. This was after Wawrinka lost his match to Tomic while Federer beat Hewitt.

This was followed by the doubles game which the pair of Federer and Wawrinka lost, causing the former world number one to say that Switzerland would find it difficult to make it back to the World Group.

However, on the final day of the competition, Federer beat Tomic to make it 2-2, before the last game went into the final set. However, Wawrinka ended the day 5-3 up in the final set before the bad light called play off. He later served it out to win the tie for Switzerland.

Novak Djokovic will take on Rafael Nadal in the final of the US Open 2011 which will be played on Monday evening, a day after it is usually played. Djokovic had gone into the tournament as the number one seed while Nadal is the second ranked player.

Djokovic entered the final after winning the semi-final against the third-seeded and crowd favourite, Roger Federer in a gruelling five-set match. Federer won the first two sets and looked good to win it before Djokovic won the next two to force it into the final set.

In the final set, Federer was serving 5-3, 40-15, with two match points to his name but the top seeded player saved the two and went on to close the match down at 7-5.

Nadal, on the other hand, went on to win the semi-final against fourth-seeded Andy Murray with consummate ease, winning in four sets.

Djokovic has won two Grand Slams this year and has lost only two matches, one to Federer and another to Murray. Nadal has won the French Open this year.

Samantha Stosur won the final of the US Open 2011 when she beat Serena Williams in an ill-tempered final. Stosur was a surprising winner of the tournament, after Williams, who is a 13-time Grand Slam champion went into the final looking like she was the favourite to win the tournament.

However, what would have surprised the fans even more is that Stosur won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, without too much going for her.

The highlight of the match, however, was another controversy that took place, as is usually the norm in Serena’s matches in the WTA.

Serving at 30-40 in the first game of the second set, Williams seemed to have hit a winner but even before the point had ended, she screamed come on. This meant that the chair umpire decided to penalise Williams for her scream, which could have disturbed the opponent.

With the point lost, Williams had also been broken and was so angry that she said to the referee that she was the same one who screwed her up in another tournament before this! As it later turned out, that was another referee who had got into trouble with Williams!
